ArchiveInstrumental music has always been my go-to space whenever solitude was required from the hustle and bustle of city life. So, it was to my excitement that an artist such as parjam parsi arrived to present their stellar album entitled “Immeasurable Distance.” Each track encompasses the exploration of the piano, and hearing it come alive from the artist’s perspective is truly a wonderful feat to witness.
We start our journey with “Somewhere”, an ambient instrumental track that shows us a glimpse of parsi’s emotional tone. The piano flourishes the melodic scene filled with interesting chord structures and long-running lead sections that sound truly wonderful. The next track “Empty” is a fitting tribute to portray melancholy. This is because the minor chord sequences are hauntingly beautiful and truly hits you in the feels. The play style is quite intriguing and I found the entire melody quite enjoyable to hear. Moving forward with the album I was presented with one pleasant experience after another. So, in the gentleness of “What took you so long”, a longing heart can be understood through the gripping piano pieces.
It is a sensational aspect of instrumental music when no words have to be spoken to understand a musician’s feelings. Indeed, parsi is a master at their craft of composing tales full of joy and tragedy through their instrument of choice. Nearing the end of the album songs such as “Railyards”, gave off a whimsical feeling that would fit perfectly in an animated Ghibli film. It felt like a dance of melodies just playfully expressing themselves!
