Hiya folks thanks for joining us in the virtual RGM lounge today, grab a brew and take a seat.
What made you decide to start to become an artist?
I was trying to live a life, my goal was not to become an artist. To avoid the general concept of art, I also tried different jobs, but each time I went back to the first stage, back to the studio. Then I distanced myself from society, even from the artistic community all of sudden Between death and work, I decided to run away with work. For now!
Introduce us all to the members and your musical history?
I have a colleague/childhood friend(Jonathan), we do everything together.
Among our earliest influences were modern classical music legends to progressive music (read Robert Fripp), to hard rock, jazz god-like musicians such as Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, and John McLaughlin…
It’s been a bit of a wild last year, how have you guys managed to pass time and stay sane during lockdown?
If I want to be honest…..When we were very young because we did not have the financial power to perform live. With the invitation of our friends. We recorded a series of performances and sent them to the others according to a mailing list. Later these performances were recognized as “Live! for a friend”.
I received an email during the quarantine, a suggestion, for doing these series again, so we do the same thing and sent them to several countries. Bring back lots of memories, it was a great experience, I think.
How positive are you feeling now we are in 2021?
I do not have optimistic vision about everything in general, it’s kind of disease but I feed from my subconsciousnes for living
How has 2020 effected your mental health?
No communication, is a perfect form of communication for me.
How did you hear about RGM coming from Armenia?
Well, I’m a musical nerd before everything. I’m starving for any kind of new music or musician. one of the best ways is searching for blogs. I found RGM like this.
Do you sign up to any conspiracy theories?
No not really.
Whats the live music scene like in Armenia?
Beautiful souls, beautiful humans, significant artists
What useless talent do you have/ party trick?
I can sleep in most uncomfortable and awkward places if you consider it as talent.
What was the most fun you have had on stage?
Meredith, Jonathan’s wife does a live show once in a while. she is a multi-talented artist, she is a cellist, poet, sound designer, and video artist. she went on stage in 2018. I was a guest that night, she asked me to join her on stage to perform a piece together. After an hour, I was still on stage improvising with her and we forgot about the audience and close the show like that.
What was the worst experience on stage?
I just live every second of it. even Bad experiences are good.
Tell us something about you think people would be surprised about?
At least I have four different personalities and that is completely normal, you know!
Tell us a funny story from backstage?
We were invited to do a show. On our way back home our vocalist shouted, I sang Demis Roussos (his idol was Robert John Arthur Halford). then he opened the van door and throw himself out of the car. with (his) a dislocated shoulder and broken bones we went to ER. I feel bad but that was funny.
If you could play any music festival which would it be?
I don’t have much desire to do live shows anymore but Montreal International Jazz Festival is a beloved festival.
What makes you stand out as a Artist?
I have a volcano of sorrow in my head and waterfall of chaos in my heart
Right now, whats pissing you of the most? (Cant say the virus)
We lost lots of great Jazz musicians and great humans during this time I was all in tears every time I opened the Twitter for another loss, I hate everything but I hate death the most because I lost so many of my loved ones”
I hear you have a new release brewing, what can you tell us about it?
I work on three topics: death, repetition, and excesses in behavior and habits that end in self-harm in some places
How was the recording process given the various restrictions the UK has been under of late?
I mean, most of the Dark Clove ensemble members live and work all over Europe. long process, sometimes we take a break for the entire project. we record parts here and there and my obsession for recording makes the process even harder.
Is there anything else you would like to share with the world?
We have enough material for our new record, project will be out this year or beginning of new year
Thanks for doing us today folks, all the best and keep in touch.
